Course participants will experience an orientation to the Emergency Medical System (EMS). Learners will take part in brief didactic sessions which will include an overview on the history of EMS, orientation to an advance life support ambulance and hands-on experience using equipment used daily by EMS and other medical professionals, such as cardiac defibrillators and airway devices. Participants will learn how to recognize different cardiac rhythms and how to treat them and will later end the day with participating in simulations using a high fidelity medical manikin, in which they will play the role of a first responder responding to an EMS call.

Introduction to Healthcare Engineering

Come and join the Jump Simulation Bioengineers as they lead learners through an investigation into the wide diversity of fields available in engineering. Attendees will get hands-on experience with many skills that our engineers use each day at Jump Simulation, including the molding and 3D printing of organs and body parts from live patients, an introduction into circuitry and coding, exciting chemistry experiments and a bridge building competition. The course is designed to expose middle school students to classic and unconventional options in the field of engineering, and is excellent for any student interested in math or the sciences.

STEM Mini Med School for Beginners will provide attendees with a glimpse of what medical students learn about the human body at the most fundamental level. The course has been designed to encourage middle school aged students to consider an educational pathway to the medical fields by giving learners an introspective look at all 11 systems of the human body. This one day, hands-on learning opportunity involves brief lectures followed by interactive sessions that include dissecting of the anatomy and testing the physiology in laboratory and clinical scenarios at a world-class medical simulation center. The course will also motivate learners to take an introspective look at their own health by using clinical tools and real human and animal specimens to discover what’s happening in their own body to understand the importance of making healthy choices.
