Summer STEM Camp for 9th-12th Graders (AM Session)
Summer STEM Camp at Jump Simulation will provide students the opportunity to become fully immersed in the different areas of STEM, specifically pertaining to health care, through participation in five, half-day sessions, beginning July 24, 2017. The five session topics include Neuroscience Anatomy Lab, Health Care Engineering, Creative Services & Technology in Health Care, EMS & Nursing and CPR Training & Health Care Professional Panel. See below to view session descriptions.
DAY 1: NEUROSCIENCE ANATOMY LAB
Students will acquire knowledge about the basic structures of the brain and nervous system, as well as receive a brief overview of how the individual parts work and cooperate to contribute to how we understand and interact with the world around us in our daily activities.
Students will have the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the three pound universe within our skulls through:
-Testing of Sensory Illusions
DAY 2: HEALTH CARE ENGINEERING
Students will gain an understanding of both the classic and unconventional fields of engineering they can enter and be exposed to opportunities present in today’s industry from Jump Simulation Bioengineers.
During this session, students will:
-Discover the ins-and-outs of 3D printing and its applications in health care
-Participate in coding and prototyping activities using Arduino Kits
-Delve into biochemistry experiments
-Undergo a team-based mechanical design competition
DAY 3: CREATIVE SERVICES & TECHNOLOGY IN HEALTH CARE
Students will learn about a variety of topics related to creativity and technology within a health care environment and also how low-cost technology is helping to shape the future in the field of health care.
Subjects will include basics on:
DAY 4: EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES (EMS) & NURSING
Students will learn about the different roles that EMS providers and nurses play in health care systems today by participating in simulations that will take place in Jump Simulation’s Virtual Hospital Unit and Regional Transport Center.
Students will have the opportunity to:
-Serve the role of a nurse and EMS provider in a simulated environment
-Interact and engage with Jump Simulation’s manikins while providing emergency medical care as they simulate transport to the hospital by ambulance
DAY 5: CPR CERTIFICATION & HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONAL PANEL
Students will receive Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training that follows the American Heart Association’s set guidelines as well as learn about a number of health care career pathways available to today’s youth through engagement with professionals that serve on the health career professional panel.
This session will give student participants the opportunity to:
-Understand the basics of CPR and what must be done to perform CPR in an effort to save a life
-Utilize actual adult and pediatric CPR manikins for training purposes
-Interact with health care professionals from a variety of different fields to learn about different opportunities available in the medical field and hospital setting
